Why we love this deal

Intel Gamer Days is soon to be your new favorite shopping holiday, with huge discounts offered on Intel-powered desktops and laptops, as well as must-have gaming accessories like office chairs and keyboards from now until September 7. And while there are countless deals to peruse, the sale on the ASUS ROG Strix 18 Gaming Laptop is one that's getting my full-throated recommendation.

This $3,400 gaming laptop is on sale at Walmart for $2,999 with this limited-time sales event, and it's despite its price, it's well worth the investment for anyone looking for a competition-ready portable PC.

Get it.

Why do shoppers love it?

Many gaming laptops in the more than $1,000 price range will deliver solid “good enough” gaming experiences in a portable form factor. But if you want speed, refresh rates, and overall performance you get with a tower PC, you'll need a heftier investment. Still, there's plenty of bang for your buck with the ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18, which is definitely one of the most powerful gaming laptops out there. That's not just speculation: I've been gaming on this laptop for the last few weeks, and its power, versatility, and immersive qualities left me stunned.

At the heart of this laptop is an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, and a whopping 32 gigabytes (GB) of DDR5 RAM, with a massive two terrabytes (TB) of solid disk space. With high-performance specs like that, I was able to run Cyberpunk 2077 on maxed-out settings, and the laptop didn't even heat up in my lap. It's no shock, considering its innovative cooling system, which not only ensures steady speeds when put through the wringer, but can also extend the longevity of your laptop.

Details to know

  • Dimensions: 39.9 inches wide by 29.8 inches long by 2.35 inches high.
  • Weight: 7.28 pounds.
  • Power: Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, 2 TB solid-state drive.

Its massive 18-inch 2K screen made games like Fortnite and Forza Horizons 5 come to life, with the most immersive gaming sessions I've ever experienced, on both a laptop and a desktop PC. All that extra screen also made editing 4K video a breeze, with one-click performance customizations that made the laptop run even more smoothly than my MacBook Pro. Aside from that, the laptop also comes with customizable RGB lighting, including a lighting array on the lid of the laptop, which is a total flex for anyone watching you game. This deal also comes with three free months of access to Xbox Game Pass and a copy of Battlefield 6, so you can get your game on day one.
