401k was never intended to be a retirement program. It was intended to supplement a defined benefits retirement like a pension or annuity. Instead, companies LIED to their employees about how they would be better off with a 401k. Of course, companies didn't do any matching, made employees pay the program costs, and some only allowed investment in company stock. It was a huge windfall for the company. It got rid of all the company-funded retirement program which ran into the 10s of billions. 401k was great if the stockmarket was good, but just ask all those people who lost everything in 2007-2010. The company stock tanked, they lost their job, and used up their 401k to survive. Retirement wasn't so good for them.
The Roth is tax when you get paid, and the 401k is not tax until you start taking disbursement. But if inflation goes up, 5% so you have lost 5% of your spending power and your investment was 3% gain, so 5% – 3% = 2% lost

I do the 6% match with my company and then invest 15% in my Roth 401k that way I pay taxes now while the interest rate is lower and draw it out tax free in retirement

Not an investment? A 401k is literally a mix of investments: etfs, indexes, mutual funds, etc.
