The Nasdaq Composite fell suddenly after opening flat. The tech-heavy index was down 0.8% and heading lower. The S&P 500 was down 0.2%, even though 382 stocks in the index were on track to close higher.
The Dow, which offers a relative lack of tech exposure, was up about 100 points, or 0.2%. Highflying tech stocks like Palantir Technologies, Advanced Micro Devices, and Nvidia were among the stocks getting sold shortly after the open.
