Stocks looked set to climb on Friday as investors tried to make sense of Donald Trump’s visit to the Federal Reserve, where the President said he probably won’t fire Chair Jerome Powell but piled more pressure on the central bank to cut interest rates. Trump told reporters that he didn’t think it would be “necessary” Powell, but also repeatedly signaled that the main reason for his trip to the Fed was to encourage the U.S.’s top central banker to slash interest rates. While higher rates tend to be bad news for the stock market, investors could also be cheered that Trump appears to be standing by Powell for now.
