As the well-known saying goes, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas,” and for WWE, this seems to be true.

Just months after declaring New Orleans as the host city for WrestleMania 42, WWE is flipping the script and will not be headed to The Big Easy after all. WrestleMania will move from the previously scheduled 2026 timeframe in New Orleans, “to a future year,” according to a statement.

The fan-favorite event may instead be returning to Sin City.

The announcement comes as WWE revels in the historic success of last month's WrestleMania 41.

WrestleMania 41, held at Allegiant Stadium, was deemed the most successful event in WWE history, so the desire to again host professional wrestling’s marquee event in Las Vegas makes sense, according to a report in the Las Vegas Review Journal.

For fans, WrestleMania is more than just one event. This year's WrestleMania included WWE World at the Las Vegas Convention Center, additional events at T-Mobile Arena, and the main two-day event at Allegiant Stadium, where John Cena beat Cody Rhodes on Night Two. Cena became the Undisputed WWE Champion for a record-setting 17th time.

Allegiant Stadium is home to the Las Vegas Raiders and many other sporting events, including WrestleMania.

Wrestlemania 42 in Las Vegas may be an even bigger spectacle

While the possibility of the return of WrestleMania to Las Vegas may give some fans whiplash, the announcement comes now that all the milestones from WrestleMania 41 have been tabulated.

WWE said this year's event saw 124,693 fans in attendance and brought the largest ticket revenue in WrestleMania history, according to parent company TKO Holdings  (TKO)  in a statement.

WrestleMania 41, the five-day interactive fan experience, became the most-attended WWE fan convention of all time with more than 50,000 attendees. This marked a 21 percent increase over 2023's WrestleMania XL, which was held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In partnership with Fanatics, merchandise sales onsite were up more than 45 percent versus the previous all-time event record set by WrestleMania XL, making WrestleMania 41 the highest-grossing event of all-time. Additionally, e-commerce sales were up 86 percent versus last year’s record, according to the TKO statement.

It's no wonder that WWE is anxious to return to Southern Nevada.

Las Vegas officials and WWE leadership have been in talks over recent weeks about the logistics of hosting WrestleMania in April 2026, also as reported in the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Hosting this fan favorite event will take coordination from multiple Las Vegas venues and facilities, including Allegiant Stadium, which is home to the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders, and the T-Mobile Arena, where the NHL's Las Vegas Golden Nights play.

WrestleMania 41 was a historic success

A key growth strategy for TKO is the pursuit of site fees and other incentives the company can attract in exchange for the economic impact its events provide to local businesses, as reported in Wrestlenomics, the outlet that reports on the business of wrestling.

The local Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority provided WWE with a $5 million site fee, and WWE also qualified for an additional $4.2 million in tax credits under a program offered by the Nevada state government, per the Nevada Current.

The real success of WrestlMania 41 didn’t just come from in-person fans: the broadcast success proved equally remarkable. Viewership reached historic levels with a 114 percent increase, compared to the previous WrestleMania viewership record set just one year earlier.

Given all the success of the Las Vegas event, the appetite to return to Nevada may have been whet, but the deal is not yet finalized. No official announcement has been made, and negotiations continue. Meanwhile, the wrestling world watches to see whether Las Vegas will become the new home for WrestleMania's most successful iterations, potentially establishing a new tradition for the sport's biggest annual spectacle.
