I do agree that $100k is simply not enough in many parts of the country now. I think $160k is around the threshold where I'd feel "well off", and at $200k+ I could still live large and save half of my income. That's the goal.
I think the probablem here is the question. People have different deffinirions for success. But 500k isnt to far off. In the state of California that 518k ends up being 298k after taxes or about 24.8k a month. Thats very good money but tbh idk if id go much lower unless u live in a different state.
So, let's demonize wanting money when every expense is hyper-inflated & then fake friendliness to those who apparently don't need as much money. Let me guess, would the boss love me if i thought 20k is a lot, yes they would. 🤬🤬🤬🤬.
If the discussion is about how much money to have invested/kept on ice for a good foundation, I'd say that Gen_Z is not that far in the extreme as people are suggesting. I understand that success in this case means Finacial Freedom and only the GEN_Z would be in a decent position out of these guys. The inflation and taxes can kill any gains over time if manged incorectly, so their "unreasonable" sum is not that unreasonable anymore, maybe even underwhelming by some below-averaged standards to consider yourself succesfull (aka ensuring Financially Freedom with those money)

100k is enough be smarter with money
As a professional silent generation guy, I can confirm that we only need 2 nickels & a stone to be successful.

Money isn’t a motivator for my happiness, it helps, but I want to pursue computers, you can live quite humbly for 40k a year
