Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal: release date and open beta weekends confirmed, plus all the announcements as they happened

Welcome to my live coverage of today’s Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal event. We’re set to get a look at gameplay, and hopefully some more news on the class system, and the rumored battle royale mode. I’ll be here providing up to date info as it’s revealed, sharing my thoughts on the show as it unfolds.

When’s the main event?

The Battlefield 6 Multiplayer Reveal event kicks off at 2:30PM ET / 11:30AM PT / 7:30PM BST. The show will be a live stream, with gameplay reveals and more. You’ll be able to watch the show over on the official Battlefield YouTube channel.

What do we know so far?

So far, we’ve seen the official reveal trailer for Battlefield 6, embedded above. It shows a much more grounded experience when compared to the last entry in the series (Battlefield 2042), with matches playing out in New York, on bridges, and within skyscrapers. There’s tons of destruction, hopefully teasing a return to the mayhem of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4.

It seems Battlefield 6 isn't going to cost $80

That's according to EA CEO Andrew Wilson, who responded to an investor asking the publisher about competitors now releasing $80 games during the company's Q1 earnings call on July 29:

“We're not looking to make any changes on pricing at this stage,” Wilson said. “That's in the construct of, we already offer a fairly broad pricing scheme across our various products.”

Depending on when Battlefield 6 launches, I’m hoping it’ll release under the current pricing expectations for AAA games. We’ll have to wait and see.

Upcoming open beta

EA has already revealed that an open beta is on the way, so hopefully we’ll hear more on that during the show. Interestingly, players will be offered playlists that have Open or Closed weapons. Many prefer weapons to be locked to classes in Battlefield, so the open beta will be the time to make your voice heard.

What I'm hoping to see

The upcoming Battlefield 6 multiplayer reveal event will feature an extended look at gameplay. I’m hoping to see a return to class-based warfare, and personally would like weapons to be locked to classes. Recently, a Battlefield 6 Battle Royale mode was leaked, and I’m excited to see how the series’ signature destruction could play into a more traditional mode like Battle Royale. I’d also like to see a release date, as I’d expect the game to be launching later this year.

Today’s event will feature gameplay segments where a variety of streamers will get to play the game. This will likely follow the main show, as has been the case at similar events. Head to your favourite Battlefield streamer’s channel during the event to catch some gameplay. You can see a list of participating streamers in the Tweet embedded above.

The Battlefield 6 battle royale map seemingly leaked earlier this week

Earlier this week (July 28), reliable Battlefield leaker ‘Temporyal' shared a mock-up of the game's battle royale map assembled through information that they had collected. The mode will allegedly take place in an environment known as Lydon Beach, a tropical-looking coastal location. We'll have to see if this rumor holds true, as it's certainly possible that EA could reveal a Battle Royale mode during today's event.

Half an hour until the start of the show

The event will begin in just 30 minutes, so be sure to get the stream loaded up and ready to go. We still don’t know whether there's a pre-show, but I’d expect there to be some lead in content, even if it’s just from the presenters at the live event.

Pax Armata is the big bad in Battlefield 6

Thanks to the Battlefield 6 reveal trailer, we know that a Private Military Group called Pax Armata (“Armed Peace”) will be the main antagonists. By the looks of things, they're funded by a wide variety of nations, and appear to be hellbent on destabilizing America. We'll have to see how things play out in the campaign.

The show has started

It's live! Let's enjoy the show. It's kicking off with a look at the overall story and setting. Looks like it's a stage show being presented live.

A first look at the siege of Cairo

Classes, gunplay and vehicles are a big focus. Developers mention the core values ‘cannot be compromised'. This means plenty of destruction.

Prone combat and tank driving look great

Limp Bizkit's Break Stuff soundtracks a dynamic gameplay trailer featuring helicopter combat over a New York bridge.

It certainly looks like ‘classic' Battlefield

Early signs are looking great, especially during the ongoing look at Manhattan's open map. Jets, helicopters, and tanks tear through the streets, and soldiers have distinct classes.

It's NATO vs Pax Armata

The main story will take players to Cairo, Manhattan, and other locations across the globe, as NATO battles a group called Pax Armata.

Classes detailed

Assault, Support, Engineer, Recon are back as the four main classes. Adrenaline shots are available for Assault players, Engineers get rockets and mines, and Support classes throw heals and ammo to keep teammates in the fight. The Recon class gets drones, C4 and the laser designator.

Drag and revive teammates

Players can now drag away teammates before reviving them. Weapons can be mounted, there's lean and peak mechanics for combat, as well as expanded slots for vehicles.

Maps are highly destructible

The maps being shown off are seriously destructible. A sledgehammer can be used to break through walls and obstacles, and entire buildings can be brought to the ground. We just saw a player use C4 to destroy a wall and exit a building.

Maps and modes revealed

Egypt, Tajikistan, Brooklyn have been confirmed as maps. Conquest, Breakthrough, Rush are the all-out warfare modes confirmed. There's Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination and King of the Hill too.

Battlefield Portal

Portal is back with an updated toolset that can be used to create custom content. Rulesets can then be added.

Single player campaign shown off

We're now seeing a first look at the ‘gritty, adrenaline-fueled story'. Dagger 13 is the squad that we'll be playing as, and we'll be tasked with taking down The Coalition and Pax Armata.

Beta weekend dates revealed

That's it for the main show. The beta weekends will start August 7, and there's a second weekend running August 14. You'll be able to get early access by watching certain streamers.

Release date revealed

Battlefield 6 will launch October 10, 2025. It appears that the leaks were real.

Final tease could be a Battle Royale

The show's ‘one more thing' is a separate experience coming to Battlefield Labs. It's sure to be the rumored Battle Royale mode, though this wasn't confirmed on stage.

Handing over to the streamers

The Battlefield 6 event is now focused on streamer gameplay. There's a wide variety of creators now streaming their gameplay. Looks like the distractible environments are a real highlight.

EA has now uploaded the main gameplay breakdown shown earlier. It goes over classes, gear, as well as some of the maps and modes that'll be there at launch.

The all-new Kinesthetic Combat System

Battlefield 6 introduces a host of new features, including the all-new Kinesthetic Combat System, which brings enhancements to movement and gunplay. This gives players an unprecedented level of mobility, offering new tactical options such as Drag and Revive to pull teammates out of danger and back from the brink, and mounting weapons on walls to reduce recoil.

Ea has now revealed the nine launch maps for Battlefield 6:

• Empire State
• New Sobek City
• Manhattan Bridge
• Iberian Offensive
• Mirak Valley
• Siege of Cairo
• Saints Quarter
• Operation Firestorm

A successor to Battlefield Firestorm?

During the main Battlefield 6 reveal event showing, we got a glimpse at an experience coming to Battlefield Labs. It wasn't named, but the final shot of the teaser showed an encroaching wall of fire. This looks like the same mechanic that featured in Firestorm, Battlefield V's Battle Royale Mode.

Battlefield 6 Beta PC requirements

In a press release following the main Battlefield 6 reveal event, EA has detailed the PC specs and requirements for the upcoming beta. You can check them out in the image embedded above. You can also view them in this EA blog post.

The Campaign teaser the was shown earlier is now available on the Battlefield X account. You can see it embedded in the Tweet above.

Operation Firestorm returns

The classic Battlefield 3 map returns. You'll be able to play Operation Firestorm in Battlefield 6 at launch.

No plans for a Nintendo Switch 2 release

The Battlefield 6 official website now features an FAQ section. There's one dedicated to whether a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game is on the way. The answer: “We currently do not have plans to release Battlefield 6 on Switch 2.”

There will be upgrades for PS5 Pro players

EA has confirmed that there will be enhancements for those playing Battlefield 6 on PS5 Pro:

“Yes, there will be visual performance enhancements for the PlayStation 5 Pro version of the game.”

No early access for launch

Battlefield 6 will launch October 10, 2025, for all players. This is revealed in the official website's FAQ section, where it's confirmed that there will be no paid early access.
