While the summer heat wave gripping much of the U.S. may feel like it will never come to an end, the airline world is already thinking ahead to a time when many people will want to get away from the cold and catch some rays by the ocean.
After announcing five new routes to tropical destinations like Curaçao and St. Maarten at the end of April, American Airlines (AAL) just revealed several more new flights that it will start flying in the fall of 2025 — along with three new flights to Mexico and the Dominican Republic, the airline will also up frequencies to popular resort destinations St. Maarten, Dominica and Tortola in the British Virgin Islands.

American Airlines ups frequencies of popular flights, talks of ‘commitment to the region'
The new Mexico routes include a flight to Mexico City from Chicago's O'Hare International (ORD) starting on Oct. 26 and another from the city to Querétaro in northcentral Mexico that will run between Dec. 18 to Jan. 5.
The flight between Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic is also a new service that will run daily during the holidays. Flights from the city to Puerto Rico's San Juan and Aruba will be upped to run a respective three and two times a day. A flight between Philadelphia and St. Maarten will also be upped from once a week to daily during the holiday period.

New Caribbean flights to also launch out of Miami in 2025
Tickets for the new routes will become available for purchase on the American Airlines website from July 14 while the added service also brings the carrier's service to 97 destinations in Mexico and 430 daily flights.
Additional service to the tropics between Dec. 18 and Jan. 8 includes eight new routes from Miami International Airport (MIA) to different destinations — flights to Dominica and Ochos Rios, Jamaica will be upped to twice a day while the route to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands will reach a peak of four daily departures.
Upped frequencies from Miami also include three daily flights to Marsh Harbour (MHH) and North Eleuthera (ELH) airports in the Bahamas and four daily flights to Kingston in Jamaica. The routes are meant to connect Miami even further to the Caribbean — the southeastern city is the main gateway for many hard-to-reach islands — as well as create flight connections for tourists from other parts of the country who are looking to get to this part of the world during the popular holiday season.
“Miami is American's gateway to Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America,” the airline said of the new routes and frequencies. “This winter, American will grow the hub to a record 415 peak daily departures and expanded holiday service to popular beach destinations.”
