Having a home is the most important and best thing you can buy in your life.
It doesn't have to be big even a small house. Because no matter what you are going through your life you know you have a home to come back to which is yours and no one is gonna kick you out of it or disturb you . Because you own it . Simple just because you are earning good now. doesn't mean it would be the same after 10 years or 20 years . But your home will remain. Even if you lose your job your business your friends at least you will have a bed to sleep on without worrying about rent and Market crash. But buy only with full cash or loan less than 20% of the house . Otherwise it will be worse than rent home in your bad situation

As Anupam said, there are stuff which you need to have peace of mind. The loss incurred in stock market or MF can be recovered over the years. That's how businesses are also built. But you need some things to have that peace of mind and house is one of those things. A house you live in is not for selling, it's for making sure that even if you are in loss you have a roof on top of your head.
