Popular Walmart partner restaurant chain makes major expansion deal

Few would've guessed that putting a sausage and a few condiments on a bun and giving it a German name would evolve into a millionaire brand.

Yet in a market where restaurant chains pour massive investments into trends and copying one another, embracing originality and staying true to one's identity can make a brand stand out.

From its humble beginnings in 1961 as a hot dog stand in Wilmington, California, this chain has grown to become the world's largest hot dog chain, with around 340 franchised restaurants across 13 states and over 50 locations currently under development nationwide.

Its iconic chili cheese dogs, fries, sandwiches, and frozen sweet treats have gained a loyal fan base that continues to expand.

Wienerschnitzel plots major expansion

Over the last few months, Wienerschnitzel has been making major plans to grow its brand by introducing it to new markets through a more flexible business model.

Moving beyond standalone restaurants, the chain has begun experimenting with unconventional locations such as airports, military bases, theme parks, food courts, and convenience stores that bring high traffic.

To ensure success, it's also attracting high-ranking, multi-unit franchise candidates.

Recently, Wienerschnitzel made a significant step in its expansion agenda by partnering with Walmart (WMT) to open six new franchisee-operated restaurants by fall 2025.

This development deal is a massive move for the restaurant chain, as affiliating itself with a major retail player such as Walmart will get it higher exposure in an already established market.

For years, Walmart has partnered with popular American fast-food chains that align with its value-focused customers. Some of its partners have included Burger King, McDonald's, Domino's, Taco Bell, and Subway, to name a few.

Wienerschnitzel to open multiple locations in a new market

Wienerschnitzel has signed a development deal to expand across the East Coast by building seven new restaurants in Norfolk and Richmond, Virginia.

This latest expansion will allow the restaurant chain to create brand recognition in a new market and reach new audiences, furthering its growth plans.

The new Virginia Wienerschnitzel locations will continue to preserve Wienerschnitzel's iconic brand by featuring a full menu and Tastee Freez desserts.
